Scrambling to find that last minute gift? Make these easy and cute snowmen hot chocolate mugs!
I stumbled upon the snowman mug idea on Pinterest last year, and thought, “even a craft challenged gal like me can handle that!”
These are so incredibly simple and affordable to make. Here’s what you need:
- white ceramic mugs (I got mine for .88 at Walmart!)
- OIL BASED Sharpies or paint pens (be sure to get oil based!)
- hot chocolate mix (here’s the recipe I use)
- plastic spoons
- chocolate chips or almond bark
- plastic baggies
Before designing your snowmen, be sure to clean and dry your mugs. This prevents any needless smudges and helps ensure your color stays.
After you’ve made your design, place your mugs on a baking sheet and place them in a COLD oven. Turn the oven to 375…some websites insist that 400 is the perfect temperature, but that is so high it makes me nervous!
Allow your mugs to warm up with the oven, and “bake” for 25-35 minutes.
While your mugs are baking, assemble your hot chocolate. The recipe I used only calls for cocoa, sugar, and salt … thank you, Martha Stewart for this simple recipe!…and requires 2 Tbsp per 1 cup of warm milk. Measure your hot chocolate into the bag (tie a ribbon around to make it pretty!), and throw an instruction sheet into the mug.
Next, place 1/4 cup chocolate chips (or almond bark) into a microwave safe bowl and heat until the chocolate is creamy. Dip your plastic spoons into the chocolate, coating most of the spoon. Then, place the chocolatey spoons on a piece of parchment paper, and place in the freezer until the chocolate has set.
(I am DEFINITELY not an artist, so instead of getting super fancy with my snowman design, I went with the less is more look!)
After the chocolate spoons are set, place them in a baggie, and tie with ribbon.
Add the hot chocolate baggie and chocolate spoon baggie to your mug, and throw in some candy, if you’d like.
I’m including printable instructions for this gift. Use and share with anyone! (Note: I indicate to only wash the snowmen mugs by hand…just in case!!)
