Welcome to a new segment I hope will become a permanent feature of My Eclectic Bookshelf, “Mommy Musings on a Monday!”
In “Mommy Musings on a Monday,” I’ll share funny stories about my children which will probably make them mad later in life 🙂 as well as neat activities, games, and apps that my kiddos love.
On to the first edition…
As I sit at my computer, drinking my umpteenth cup of coffee of the morning, I embrace a rare moment of peace while my four year old and two year old daughters play nicely together.
Any parent of youngsters can attest to the fact that these moments of friendship among siblings can sometimes be few and far between!
AND…we’ve had many snow days in a row, and as the children of a teacher, they have been having tons of “together” time, which makes the fact that they are playing nicely all the more fabulous!
What’s so awesome, you ask?
My kiddos are sharing an iPad today. This sentence in itself is mind-blowing.
Let me repeat. They are SHARING an IPAD.
My oldest daughter’s morning started out rough when she realized, as she attempted to open one of her favorite apps, that we forgot to charge her iPad last night.
You can imagine the teary-eyed breakdown that followed.
Hades hath no fury like that of a toddler whose iPad battery is dead.
It’s just not a pretty sight.
Right now, as one of the iPads is charging, both of the girls are sitting on the couch, sharing an iPad, playing an app called Rosetta Stone Kids Letter Lingo. This app is AWESOME for both of the girls because it encourages them to associate letter sounds with words. This gamified learning tool allows them to earn the “toys” with which they correctly associate the letter sound. It’s really great and FREE!!
As I watch them sitting by each other, sharing, learning, and working together, it makes my Mommy heart smile! I know this moment most likely won’t last another 10 minutes, but it is precious to behold!
