I LOVE to read! Reading has been such a great hobby for me throughout my life, and I want so badly to pass the love for books down to my children.
As a mother who is also a teacher, I am extremely adamant that my children be exposed to reading, and hopefully learn to love it! The educational benefits of reading and being read to throughout childhood are just outstanding 🙂
Here’s the short list of our family favorites:
Brown Bear, Brown Bear
Our youngest daughter, Molly, LOVES to read this book, just like her big sister, Hanna. We started reading Brown Bear to Hanna when she was very young, and read it so many times that she memorized it! Now, she enjoys reading this classic to her little sister, and it is so precious to watch as a parent. Molly now knows the story enough that she says “see” and “me” at the appropriate times. So much fun!
Llama Llama Red Pajama
I think we actually have two copies of this book. Llama Llama is the first in a series by Anna Dewdney that chronicles the struggles of young Llama. This story describes an issue SO many kids struggle with…going to bed! Hanna loves to “read” this as well…she basically has it memorized! This is also available as an app for iOS devices, so Llama Llama comes with us, everywhere!
Dr. Seuss’ ABC’s
In addition to the crazy rhymes and characters that are included in these fantastic books, Dr. Seuss’ ABC’s helps both of my girls not only learn what words start with which letters, it also helps them identify letters and their sounds, and we can all laugh when Mommy or Daddy mess up a tongue twister!
It’s Time to Sleep, My Love
This book was given as a gift to Hanna for her first birthday, and I need to purchase another copy of it. This calming story guides the reader through the going to sleep process for animals and their families. It’s beautifully written! Check it out!
Sofia the First and the Enchanted Feast
This book is a new favorite in my family! We love all of the Sofia the First books, but I think this may take the cake. Sofia encounters a familiar evil sorceress and then meets Snow White! Does it get better than that?!
The Cat in the Hat
Who doesn’t love this classic? It’s still a little long for Molly (and sometimes Hanna) to sit through, but I’m sure it will be a staple in our reading collection for years to come!
What are your family favorites?
Thanks for reading 🙂
